The forecast says 70 degrees on Friday. Looking forward to it ending like a lamb. We’re done with snow.
got gauge?
Last week at knitting group we noticed that there were two very different blankets being made from the same exact stitch. The lighter blanket made out of fingering weight yarn is dense and squishy. The darker blanket made out of worsted weight yarn is light and airy. Both blankets are straight double crochet.
It’s amazing how yarn weight and hook size can completely transform a project.

oh, darn! sweater edition
This sweater was a lucky garage sale find a few years ago. I practically live in this thing during the winter. It’s made of cotten and is like wearing a cozy blanket around the house.
The elbows have been worn thin. I tried to fix it last year and didn’t do a very good job. The stitches were so stretched out and I just kind of winged it.
Darning those socks and watching the Knit Picks videos made me want to try again. So far, so good. The three rows above the needle are looking nice. I’ll post an after pic when I’m finished.
noro eye candy
What is it about Noro yarn? The colors are so intense. They make any project look exceptionally beautiful.
I was casually browsing the library shelves when I found this book. The pictures are gorgeous. The colors are amazing.
I don’t think I’ll be being buying this for my collection. There aren’t even any patterns that I’m dying to make.
But for the entire time it was checked out, I stared at these pages. I stared at the beautiful photography. I got inspired.
After I finish the Honey Cowl, I just might dig out some Noro from my stash and make something amazing.

don’t believe the tooth saver hype
At my daughter’s school, when a student loses a tooth, they’re sent to the nurse for a little treasure chest. She has wanted one of these for over a year. It’s all she talks about when she has a wiggly tooth and she’s so disappointed when it falls out at night, on the weekend, on vacation.
Last Friday that all changed.
I was walking toward the gym to collect the kids for Cupcake Decorating and saw her down the hall looking at me, jumping up and down, and pointing to the big whole in her mouth. She was so excited.
When we got home, she pulled out the elusive treasure chest and I may have said something terrible like, “That’s it?” Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s great that kids who lose their tooth in school get a little box for it. It’s better than wrapping it up in a paper towel, right? But not only did it not live up to all of her hype, it didn’t even stay closed. It kept popping open and propelling her tooth into the air!
Although I was unimpressed, she was ecstatic. For her, I think it was more a right of passage than anything else. It was an opportunity to leave class and get something special — a few moments in the spotlight.
I really am happy for her. I just wish the darn thing would stay shut.
casting on the honey cowl!
Boheme #3 is finished! Pics to come soon.
I’m finally casting on the Honey Cowl with my new yarn. Yay!
resource: A friend of mine has been talking up the crochet cast on and I had her show it to me last week at knitting group. It’s nice and stretchy; much better than the long tail, which I tend to do too tight. You can find a tutorial video here.
