custom crochet hat

Well, look at that! Something that isn’t red! The blog has been looking kind of rosy these days, hasn’t it?

I have a cool story to go with my creative space today. One of my husband’s high school friends follows me on my facebook page. When I was posting all of those kids’ crochet hats, she asked if I could make one for her. Isn’t social networking awesome?

I went ahead and made an adult prototype first for myself. Yes, it’s red.

scallop crochet hat

My daughter really loves the scallops. After I am finished the yellow hat, it’s back to red for me. Matching mother and daughter hats. Love it!

my creative space (a day late)

scarf, bunting and zipper bag

I can’t believe I missed the first Creative Space of 2010! I was so busy last night playing around with my “new yarn” that I totally forgot to write a blog post. Whoops!

My creative space for today, and most of this weekend, is filled with the color red and lots of pretty hearts. I’m making good progress on my red scarf for Craft Hope. I have to take pictures of a sweetheart zipper bag that I finished up yesterday. And last, but not least, I plan on making a Valentine’s Day bunting out of this tea towel.

I’ve been missing Kirsty’s Creative Spaces and I’m so glad she’s hosting them again. You really should check out all of the wonderful blogs listed!

adjustable elastic kids pants

In my creative space today is an unfinished tutorial. I was hoping to have it posted this week.

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that was feeling a bit like a mending rock star last week when I figured out how easy it is to add adjustable elastic to kids’ pants.

I took all of the pics—just need to get them in order and write it up. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, head on over to Kirsty’s blog for more creative spaces.

crochet holiday star garland

I think this picture of my creative space might be a little misleading. I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet. November is my favorite month and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s just that I have finished up a lot of the projects on my needles and found myself with nothing to take to knitting group last night.

crochet holiday star garland

I’ve decided to crochet some stars for the holidays with this fancy yarn I got at my knitting guild’s trick or treat swap. I have no idea what it is, but it sure is festive! I’m going to work on these stars in between projects until I have enough to string a garland for the holidays. I should be able to have them done before December, when I actually will be in the holiday spirit.

knitting a marsan watchcap for my daughter

My creative space is filled with knitting today. Actually, re-knitting.

You know how everyone always says gauge is so important? Well, getting your daughter’s head measurement right in the first place is even more important.

Yep, that’s her first hat in the background of the picture. I measured a moving target and came up with 19 inches. Never measure a moving head. After we determined that it wouldn’t fit and my gauge was spot on, I measured her head while standing still. 20 inches.

So, I’m re-knitting and since there is snow in the forecast, I’m bumped this project up to the top of my to-do list.

. . . . .

Non-knitters: the simplest definition of gauge is how many stitches you knit per inch. Multiply stitches per inch by number of inches to figure out how many stitches you need for something to fit. I multiplied my gauge by too few inches and wound up with a hat that is too small.

making a paper ghost garland for halloween decoration

My daughter and I have been coloring paper ghosts this week. Today I’m going to cut them out and we’re going to string them into a garland. Want to make one, too? Grab the template from Ellen over at The Long Thread.

recharging creative spirit at the beach

Today I’ll be at the beach relaxing and renewing my creative spirit. I’m planning to finish knitting a wool hat for my husband. There’s also a cute yarn and fabric store that I spied last night on the way to dinner. I’m going back today to take a little look around. I might even come home with something. After all, if I finish the hat, I’ll need a project for the plane ride back, right?

laptop bag purse

Today my creative space is filled with finishing. I just finished this laptop bag/purse for myself. Hopefully, we’ll get a little sun today so I can get some more pics. I’m also finishing up another tote for an etsy order. Plus, I’ve got to whip up two gift bags for these projects and I’m going to try and fit in a little mending in the evening.

linen tea towels and wool knit gloves

Today my creative space is filled with gift making. I’m embroidering, sewing, and knitting and having so much fun! Unfortunately, I can’t show you more until after the gifts have been delivered.

I can tell you that I am making more tea towels and really need to get practicing with that rolled hem foot again. I’d really like to make some more towels and napkins for my family. They don’t need to be fancy, but we should be using them more than we use paper towels and napkins.

my creative space

I can’t believe it’s Thursday already! I haven’t been able to do as much sewing as I’d like this week, so my creative space is all about my Chromium Star Blanket. I’ve just started the second skein of red yarn and I’m loving how this is shaping up!

Red seems to be the color of choice for a lot of crafty bloggers this week. Check out the comments over at Kirsty’s blog for more creative spaces.
