oh, darn! sweater edition

20130305-222432.jpg

This sweater was a lucky garage sale find a few years ago. I practically live in this thing during the winter. It’s made of cotten and is like wearing a cozy blanket around the house.

The elbows have been worn thin. I tried to fix it last year and didn’t do a very good job. The stitches were so stretched out and I just kind of winged it.

Darning those socks and watching the Knit Picks videos made me want to try again. So far, so good. The three rows above the needle are looking nice. I’ll post an after pic when I’m finished.

casting on the honey cowl!

Boheme #3 is finished! Pics to come soon.

I’m finally casting on the Honey Cowl with my new yarn. Yay!

resource: A friend of mine has been talking up the crochet cast on and I had her show it to me last week at knitting group. It’s nice and stretchy; much better than the long tail, which I tend to do too tight. You can find a tutorial video here.

finished: boheme sweater 2

Since I’m finishing up Boheme #3, I think it’s time I posted pics of Boheme #2. I knit this one using the feather and fan stitch for the body. I think it’s my favorite finished product, but I did not enjoy the pattern. I’m not sure why. It just seemed tedious. I always wanted to make a feather and fan scarf someday. Guess that’s not going to happen. Still, the sweater knitted up beautifully. Love it.

new yarn motivation

I finished up the granny cowl and I thought my new yarn might motivate me to finish up one more project. It’s crazy, right? I mean how long can I resist the new yarn?

This is Boheme #3. It’s been on hold since before the holidays. Gotta get it done. I do have pics of Boheme #2. I’ll try to post them soon. (Boheme #1 is here.)

a new year, some new yarn

20130101-155030.jpg

I rarely buy new yarn, but once a year I head up to Omaha with my friends to a LYS that puts its entire stock on sale. This year I bought some laceweight for a scarf and the above Tosh Merino DK to make a honey cowl (ravelry link). I can’t wait to wind it and cast on.

Are you celebrating the new year with a new project?

soccer knitting

knitting boheme baby sweater at soccer practice

The first few weeks of September always make me a little blue. Even though it’s technically still summer for a few more days, my Fall allergies have been in high gear for awhile. It’s frustrating because this is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp mornings and cool evenings. I don’t love being a snifflely, sneezey zombie.

It takes a few weeks before I snap out of it. The first frost won’t be here until next month and there are far too many things to enjoy outside. Ragweed doesn’t care if I’m sitting at my daughter’s soccer practice or running up to the grocery store for milk. I can’t escape it. Once I accept it, my mood improves.

Last weekend the weather was beautiful. The air was cool, but the sun was warm. The sky was bright blue and cloudless. I brought a chair and my knitting and soaked in the beauty of Mother Nature. It was definitely worth it.

I’m excited to finally post pics of this baby sweater. It was a fun little knit, even though I had to rip back a few times in the beginning because of missed buttonholes. (I must be out of practice knitting and watching tv.)

The only thing I changed about the pattern was the picot bind off. I chose a picot hem instead, which lies flatter and feels more finished to me.

boheme sweater

My friend Lisa introduced me to Boheme and has knitted up quite a few of them. It really is the perfect three-season sweater: over long sleeves in the Fall, a turtleneck in the Winter and a tank top in the Spring. I’ll definitely be making another one. I’ve see a few feather and fan versions that are really cute.

What’s your favorite baby sweater pattern? Knit or crochet. Share in the comments!

pattern notes: You can find the pattern on Ravelry here. I used some Patons Rio from my stash. I love this yarn and wish it hadn’t been discontinued. I only have two skeins left.

two heels are better than one!

handknit socks

Fished out a pair of socks from the UFO pile. Started these almost two years ago! Yikes! Working on them two at a time and ready to turn both heels.

notes from my original post: Yarn is Sockittome by Cherry Tree Hill Yarn. Pattern is Diagonal Lace Socks by Wendy Johnson from Socks from the Toe Up. You can download the pattern for free, but make sure to check the errata on ravelry before you start knitting.
