throwing routine out the window

We’re about half way through summer and bedtime is whenever we collapse from exhaustion. Sometimes we go to bed still covered in chlorine and sunscreen. The adults have an extra glass of wine, and she somehow convinces us to have dessert every night. (For the record, the three of us could not finish this monstrosity. We put in a good effort, though.)

I can’t believe summer is half over already.

We already have summer-like heat in Nebraska. It seems we’ve skipped Spring and went straight to 90 degrees. I’ve been trying to make sure we do lots of water-related activities, even though that’s not really my thing. My daughter is super happy, though!

This was our first trip to the sprayground at Trago Park. I highly recommend it.
(Also, it’s free!)

I think we’re finally going to do it: a clubhouse in the backyard. My husband and daughter marked off the area and checked the grade. Now we just need to see what fits.

I also dusted off my DSLR. I’m making an effort to use that more and my phone camera less.

She obviously doesn’t need help with her new bow and arrow.

summer mornings:

“Mama, can you do this for me?”
“Mama, can you get this for me?”
“Mama, can you make this for me?”
“Mama, can you etc., etc., etc., for me?”

In my head: “Really? You’re almost seven years old. Do it yourself. Grow up already!”

summer afternoons:

“Bye, Mama!” after a quick hug in front of camp.

In my head: “Really? You don’t want me to walk you to the door? You can find your class by yourself? STOP GROWING UP SO FAST!”
