i’m back!

little drums in aruba

Well, my body is back on American soil. My mind hasn’t really left the sandy beaches and beautiful blue waters of Aruba.

I’m slowly getting back into home life. I’ve bought groceries and it’s nice to have a home-cooked meal. I’ve started going through all of my pictures. That may take awhile. The suitcases are unpacked, but I haven’t done a stitch of laundry.

I did a little bit of writing while I was gone. Some knitting, too. I plan to be back to regular posting soon.

I’ve got a new camera. It’s fancy. (Click on photos for larger images)

Unlike my point-and-shoot, I’m going to have to read the manual for this one.

But that hasn’t stopped me from just diving in!

hello november!

early morning frost

I don’t have any crafty pictures today, so I thought I’d share one that I took of the morning frost at the park. It’s got me thinking about the cold weather that’s almost upon us. (Here’s a larger size so you can see the ice crystals.)

My daughter goes on a hike at nature school, so we can’t simply run from the car to the door. Well, I can, but she’s got to dress for the weather. I have to pull out her hat and mittens and see if they still fit.

I’m mending one of my favorite sweaters that has worn elbows. I’m taking pictures and will share all of the steps with you this week.

I made a big pot of soup and an apple crisp this weekend. I also spent a lot of time under my one of my favorite blankets.

I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving and making holiday gift lists.

Today I voted. Tomorrow I will turn the phone ringer back on.

When I enrolled my daughter in “nature school” I never thought that I would enjoy her mornings there so much. The preschool is on a wildlife sanctuary, and after I drop her off, I’ve been wandering around with my camera.

In the early hours the air is cool and crisp. Only a few hardy flowers have survived the morning frost. (Thankfully, the ragweed hasn’t survived!) On sunny mornings the sun glistens off of prairie grass and the fall leaves sparkle.

I’ve talked a bit before about shifting my creative hours from late night to early morning. I think I finally have found something that will inspire me to get out of bed earlier. That and fresh brewed coffee, of course.

photos: I took all of these with my cell phone, but I tinkered with them a bit in photoshop.

kearney cruise ’09: the details

It’s been a long time since I’ve taken pictures just for fun. Usually, I’m trying to document a milestone in my daughter’s life or get a close-up of something I’ve made. On Saturday, I took pictures just because I was feeling creative. This set is the detail set. Larger pics in my gallery.
