bizarre beasts!

Driving down 14th Street last summer all I ever heard was: “Mom! We need to see the Bizarre Beasts! They’re at Morrill Hall!” However, we never managed to make it for one reason or another.

On Sunday my daughter went to a birthday party at Morrill Hall. We had long since forgotten about the Bizarre Beasts, until we wandered into the exhibit hall and Oh! My! Goodness! a squeal that rattled even the oldest dinosaur bones.

It’s a small exhibit, but she loved it. She also had a blast at the party. I’m guessing we’ll be spending more time at Morrill Hall in the future.

my daughter’s second art show

You may remember the excitement of my daughter’s first art show last year. Well, this summer she did the full-day elementary art camp and had a blast. Once again, the campers exhibited their artwork, but this year they did so at the Sheldon Museum of Art. She was pretty excited.

In addition to showing us all of her work, she took us on a tour of some of her favorite exhibits that she visited earlier in the week. She was so excited and proud. It was adorable.

I still need to write about the other camps she’s taken this summer. She came home from science camp exclaiming she wanted to be a scientist, or maybe an artist that draws science pictures. This week was insect camp. She brought home a jar of mealy worms, which I’ve been told are really dark winged beetle larvae, and tomorrow they are having cricket cookies for a snack. Oh, my!

my daughter’s first art gallery opening

Last week my daughter attended art camp at the children’s museum. Friday afternoon they created a gallery for the kids to exhibit their work. My daughter was beyond excited. You see, she wants to be an Artist when she grows up. This was her first Show.

She did an amazing amount of work in one week’s worth of mornings. She really enjoyed learning about pointillism and her favorite paintings (the top one titled: Birds and the one of the big flower) are hanging in her room. My favorite, however, is the painting on foil titled: Cat Hanging on a Tree.

This is my daughter’s second camp at the Lincoln Children’s Museum. They do such an incredible job with the kids. If you are local, I encourage you to check them out.
