This week I crocheted a little flower bookmark for a friend. I mailed it to her “just because.”
I wish I did things like this more often, but I tend to get wrapped up in my own little world. I’m going to try and change that.

updated to add: This is my standard bookmark pattern. I replaced the ornament with “Daisies” from Crochet Embellishments. There’s a similar pattern online here.
In my creative space today, I’m cooking up some ideas for some old capri pants. Can’t say much more because the end result may be a surprise.

Our knitting guild has received yarn from the Land’s End Share the Warmth project. Have you heard about this? For every Feel Good sweater that is purchased, Land’s End will donate yarn to The Knitters Guild Association to be made into squares for Warm Up America. Our guild received three cones and I’ve got three “yarn cakes” to turn into squares. The colors are really beautiful and the yarn is super soft. I’m enjoying these squares a lot.

In my creative space today, I spent the last day of my vacation crocheting squares at the beach. I’m cruising along on these, although it took way too long for me to memorize the pattern. Of course, now that I’m all relaxed and on a roll, it’s time to go home.

In my creative space today I’m blocking a doily. Yes, you read that right. I got out a teeny-weeny hook and used crochet thread. Can you believe it?

My creative space today is a progress report on last week’s space.
The sleeve repair went smoothly, mostly because it was stockinette and straight forward kitchener stitch. I didn’t have yarn close enough in color so I “borrowed yarn” from the sweater’s seams. It wasn’t an exact match, but better than what I had on hand. I used stash yarn to re-seam the sides.
The ribbing was a little more difficult. The mended spots were definitely sturdy, but they weren’t the prettiest. I used yarn from my stash for the nitty gritty details and then duplicate stitched over the grafted parts with the sweater seam yarn for a nice looking finish.
I’m still trying to decide if the attention to detail with the duplicate stitch is worthy of praise or borderline crazy. Either way, I think it looks really nice.

This week in my creative space I’m mending. Crazy thing is that it isn’t even my sweater. In fact, I don’t even know the owner. A friend of friend needed help fixing a Very Important Sweater. It was a wedding gift. It’s over 20 years old. Could I repair the holes? Reinforce the weak spots?
I don’t know which made me happier: the fact that my friend had such confidence in my abilities or the prospect of fixing something that meant so much to someone. I tackled the big hole first, knowing it would be smooth sailing from there. Here it is ready for the grafting.
It was trickier than I thought, but also easier than I thought. My experience with unraveling sweaters combined with my recent retreat class on steeking has really made me kind of fearless of dropped stitches.

Today in my creative space is a little mindless crochet. I had started knitting my second charity blanket square (here’s the first one) and it just wasn’t turning out right. It may have had something to do with my daughter messing with my row counter, stealing my pattern and pulling stitches off my needles. I finally gave up and pulled out my crochet hook. She still tries to “help out” with it, but does a lot less undoing with this version.

After a few weeks of circles, I really needed to get back to squares. I didn’t have anything particular in mind. I just grabbed this little basket of wool that I use for wrapping packages and started making grannies. I’m thinking it will be a bookmark. I need a new one for my summer reading. Speaking of which, look what I happened to spy at the library today: three of my favorite Rs! After just flipping through the pages, I’m already in love.

I never thought to write reviews of them on my blog, but it just occurred to me that maybe someone out there might be interested. If you are, let me know. My creative space is filled with other creative folks today. I woke up feeling a little under the weather (ok, a lot under the weather) and decided to take it easy. I spent the day curled up with this blanket, reading my copy of Craft Corps, and working on more of these.
